Get files in, get clean files out

Getting files in

  • Share sheet: in almost any app’s share sheet, tap Wavli (the extension is called Save to Wavli, which is the name you may see on other iOS versions). The file appears on Wavli’s Home screen under “Ready from Share”. It takes one file at a time.
  • Files app: in Wavli, tap “Choose a recording” and pick a file from Files, iCloud Drive, or other storage providers (one at a time from the Home screen).
  • Video from Photos: pick a video without giving Wavli access to your full library.
  • Voice memos: in Voice Memos, share the memo as Rendered and tap Wavli, or save it to Files first.

Wavli opens M4A, MP3, WAV, AIFF, and CAF audio, and MOV and MP4 video.

Getting clean files out

Export audio as M4A (AAC), WAV, MP3, or AIFF, and video as MP4. Send the result with Share, save it to Files, or, for videos, add it to Photos. Exporting as MP3 is also an easy way to turn a voice memo into an MP3.

To change a file’s format without cleaning it, use the Convert tool (“Switch between audio formats”; on the “What would you like to change?” sheet it’s called “Change file format”). It takes audio or video and saves M4A, WAV, MP3, or AIFF. For video, Extract Audio saves just the sound as M4A or WAV, with no effects applied.

Shortcuts

On iOS 16 and later, Wavli adds two actions to the Shortcuts app: “Clean Recording” and “Convert Audio to M4A”. Clean Recording is an automatic cleanup for one audio file. It can trim silent edges, shorten long pauses, reduce noise when there’s enough of it, and even out the loudness of speech. It doesn’t remove hum or accept video, and it returns the cleaned M4A to your shortcut for you to save (for example with Save File). Each successful run uses one free export. Convert Audio to M4A converts a file to M4A and returns it to your shortcut. It also uses one free export per run.
